Diversity at Illinois

Inclusive Illinois

The Chancellor has a diversity and inclusivity initiative called Inclusive Illinois, one campus, many voices. Inclusive Illinois strives to promote and foster an inclusive and diverse campus community. The three objectives of Inclusive Illinois are to showcase the ways in which the university:

  • demonstrates its commitment;
  • celebrates its achievements; and
  • educates the campus and the community about diversity and inclusivity.

The Inclusive Illinois Web site is the university’s information source for diversity at Illinois. By engaging in its programming, campus community members are given the opportunity to:

  • examine and challenge how their perceptions, ideas, and
  • experiences influence conduct and behavior;
  • heighten their awareness about issues of difference based on race, ethnicity, class, gender, sexual orientation and gender identity, age, physical ability, and religion; and
  • make a personal commitment to better understand and respect the intersection of identities and the ways they see themselves and others.

To enhance the Illinois experience, the university encourages a standard of conduct and behavior that values the importance of diversity and inclusivity. At Illinois, there is no place for acts of hatred, intolerance, insensitivity, bigotry, threats of violence, harassment or discrimination. Everyone’s contributions are recognized, and consensus is forged by discourse.

Office of Equal Opportunity and Access

The Office of Equal Opportunity and Access (OEOA) is also a resource to campus on issues of compliance, diversity, and inclusivity. The mission of the Office of Equal Opportunity and Access is to provide leadership by facilitating compliance and promoting an inclusive community through diversity, education, and outreach initiatives.

Office of Inclusion and Intercultural Relations

The Office of Inclusion and Intercultural Relations (OIIR) seeks to improve campus climate by providing transformative learning experiences to the Illinois community that result in an appreciation for diversity and cross-cultural engagement. OIIR contributes to the academic mission of the University by providing students educational opportunities about the various dimensions of diversity and intersections of identities.
