All About APs
Academic Professionals (APs) are salaried employees whose positions meet specialized administrative, professional, or technical needs. APs perform high-level duties and frequently have specialized responsibilities in academic, research, or administrative areas. In addition, the positions they hold have been specifically exempted from the Illinois State University’s Civil Service System.
All APs must have at least a bachelor's degree in a field required by the position. Positions frequently require an advanced degree and experience uniquely relevant to the job. There are nearly 4,000 APs at the Urbana campus, working across all disciplines. Work environments range from laboratories to libraries to liveries.
APs receive a contract for a specified appointment period, often with renewal possibilities for subsequent periods. They have the same benefits as faculty members and non-tenured academics, except those that apply specifically to the faculty, such as tenure eligibility.
